Meet Carlia Waite

Carlia Waite, J.D., M.S.W., is a respected family law, divorce, and custody lawyer in Las Vegas with more than 20 years of experience, known for strategic thinking, calm negotiation, and compassionate representation. She is highly regarded for helping clients reach fair, efficient resolutions—without escalating unnecessary conflict – and she brings the unique perspective of a social worker who pivoted to family law. Carlia is proud to be a member of the Amicable Divorce Network (“ADN”). She is a Certified Amicable Divorce Professional and has received the Narcissist Expert Designation from ADN.

As the founder and owner of Waite Family Law, Carlia’s experience includes divorce and annulment, amicable divorce, child custody matters, premarital and postmarital agreements, and complex property division. Carlia is committed to helping clients protect their assets, maintain stability, and move forward with confidence.

Carlia’s clients include professionals, business owners, and individuals who value privacy, efficiency, and thoughtful legal strategy. Carlia believes that family law should be dignified, solution-oriented, and shaped around each person’s priorities. Clients who choose Carlia have the confidence of knowing they are working with a seasoned trial lawyer. While Carlia appreciates that many clients prefer to keep the situation out of the courtroom by focusing on settlement and private mediation, she is always prepared to take a case to trial when it serves the best interest of a client. When you work with Carlia, you will never feel like you’re being rushed, dismissed, or told which step to take instead of collaborating with your attorney to take the step that feels natural to you.

Carlia began her career as a licensed social worker in Kansas City, Missouri after graduating from Missouri State University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and criminal justice and a master’s degree in social work. While fulfilling, the work often left Carlia frustrated because she was unable to provide permanent and profound solutions for her clients. She witnessed firsthand how the legal system often failed people who were the vulnerable parties in domestic situations.

Her time as a social worker exposed Carlia to the lack of resources many people face when it comes to things like domestic issues, alimony, and child custody. This frustration helped to spur a lifelong passion for advocacy both in and out of the courtroom. Carlia decided to attend law school to begin a career that enabled her to help clients in family law cases. She graduated from the University of Las Vegas William S. Boyd School of Law in 2003.

As an experienced social worker and practicing attorney, Carlia has a unique understanding of the emotional and financial impact of divorce and separation. She understands the sensitive and tender nature of cases involving the end of a marriage or disputes regarding custody and assets. She fights hard for the rights of her clients because she understands the stakes as a business owner and mother. It’s never just a case to Carlia. This is your life, your future, your fight.

Carlia is especially passionate about situations involving children. This is where Carlia’s advocacy hat comes on. In addition to offering a deep degree of caring for her clients and any minor children involved in a case, Carlia uses her experience and unique insights into domestic situations to carefully discern family dynamics and point out holes in legal arguments that would strip her clients of the very rights that protect their best interests both today and in the future. Carlia works meticulously to meet both the emotional and legal needs of her clients.

Many people don’t know where to start when they’re facing separation, divorce, or custody issues. Getting all of the questions that are on your mind answered is the first step to understanding exactly where you stand. The reality is that time matters in domestic cases. Every day that you hesitate or “wish” for things to go smoothly is a day that you potentially lose ground on your ability to position yourself for the best outcome.
